Barbara Martinez

Barbara Martinez is a reporter in the New York bureau of The Wall Street Journal.  She covers the health-care and managed-care industries.

Ms. Martinez joined the Journal as a part-time copyreader in September 1991 and became a copy editor on the national news desk in June 1992.  She moved to the Dow Jones Investor Network as a reporter in June 1994 and became an assistant news editor in 1996.  She returned to the Journal as a reporter working on the spot news desk in February 1997, became the paper’s national real estate reporter in May 1998 and began covering her current beat in June 2000. 

Ms. Martinez has been a director on the board of the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund since 1997 and has responsibility for the Fund's business reporting program.  

Born in Newark, N.J., Ms. Martinez earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from New York University.  While at the university, she worked for a summer as a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund editing intern on the Journal's copydesk in New York.

She lives in Hoboken, N.J.
