2017 ELIGIBILITY & RULES

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY, AS SOME PROCEDURES HAVE CHANGED

ELIGIBILITY

1 - Any journalist or media outlet (print, digital or broadcast) may enter submissions on a subject related to business, finance and/or economics.

2 - Individual authors may submit a maximum of two (2) submissions.

3 - Authors with joint bylines may submit a maximum of three (3) submissions.

4 - Each outlet is limited to two (2) submissions per category. 

5 - The same submission may only be entered a maximum of two (2) times.

6 - Consideration is limited to items/elements published or broadcast in the United States in the calendar year 2016.

7 - Any significant challenge to the honesty, accuracy or fairness of an entry in any category, as well as responses to the challenge, should be included in the submission. Published letters of complaint, corrections or retractions are examples of items relevant to the judging process.

8 - All entries must be submitted online.

ALL COMPETITION CATEGORY RULES

1 - Each submission shall consist of no more than five (5) elements for each category.

2 - You may choose to have elements of the same type or combine types of elements in your submission.

3 - Element types, are as follows: print, digital, audio (broadcast radio, satellite radio and online), video (broadcast television, cable television, streaming and online), still photography, graphics/data visualization, interactives, podcasts, blog and social media.

4 - Supplemental (unpublished) material will not be accepted.

5 - All print, digital or online elements of the submission must be submitted in a single PDF file.

6 - Additionally, working URL(s) for all online and video/audio elements must be included in the fields provided on the submission form.

7 - For video/audio elements, each organization/submitter is required to "host" their own video or audio elements and provide working URLs to a webpage where the embedded video/audio will play.

8 - The submission PDF file's pages should be in the following order:

PAGE 1 - The first page of your PDF file should include a Cover Letter for the Judges. (The Cover Letter can be longer than one (1) page, if needed.)

PAGE 2 - The second page of your PDF file should include: 

a) the Title of your submission

b) the Category in which it is being submitted

c) a numbered List of Elements with their active URLs (if applicable)

d) The names of all journalists/authors/creators of each element. If the submissions is selected as a finalists, these will be the names officially announced.

PAGE 3 & BEYOND - These pages should contain printable (and legible) versions of all of your elements (in the same order as your List of Elements). For elements of audio, video, interactives, graphics, social media, etc. please provide a screen shot with a note to refer to the URL on the List of Elements page. (Note: the judges are instructed to visit the URLs provided in your submission.)

Published letters of complaint, corrections or retractions are examples of items relevant to the judging process and should be noted in your Cover Letter or List of Elements and included in your submission. 

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
& LAWRENCE MINARD EDITOR AWARD SUBMISSIONS RULES

1 - Please be prepared to provide the nominee's name, title and organization.

2 - In a single PDF file, please provide the following:

a) Biography of the nominee.

b) Minimum of three (3) letters of support or a maximum of five (5) letters of support. (The letters of support should be compelling and provide a justification for the nomination.)

c) For Minard Editor Award submissions only: There should be letters of support from journalists whose work the nominee has edited, with a description of how the work was enhanced by the nominee's input.

d) For Minard Editor Award submission only: Include a list of pieces/stories edited by the nominee. The list should also include URLs for each piece/story and a short paragraph regarding the impact the nominee's role, as the editor, had on the pieces/stories.

3 - You may nominate more than one journalist and/or editor.

4 - All nominations must be submitted online.
