2013 Eligibility & Rules

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY, AS SOME PROCEDURES HAVE CHANGED

ELIGIBILITY:

SUBMIT AN ENTRY TO THE 2013 GERALD LOEB AWARDS - CLICK HERE

1 - Any writer or commercial publication may enter a submission on a subject related to business, finance and/or economics.

2 - Any broadcast program or series is eligible, covering a single topic or subject.

3 - Individual authors may submit a maximum of two (2) submissions.

4 - Authors with joint bylines may submit a maximum of three (3) submissions.

5 - Each outlet is limited to two (2) submissions per category. 

6 - The same submission may only be entered a maximum of two (2) times, once in a platform neutral category (Neutral Group) and once in a platform specific category (Specific Group).

7 - Consideration is limited to articles published or broadcast in the United States in the calendar year 2012.

8 - Any significant challenge to the honesty, accuracy or fairness of an entry in any category, as well as responses to the challenge, should be included in the submission. Published letters of complaint, corrections or retractions are examples of items relevant to the judging process.

9 - All entries must be submitted online.


 NEUTRAL GROUP RULES:

1 - Each submission shall consist of no more than five (5) elements for each Neutral Group category.

2 - You may choose to have elements of the same type or combine types of elements in your submission.

3 - Element types, for the Neutral Group, are as follows: individual print article(s), broadcast segments (television, radio or online video), digital print, online or visual element, blog or photo.

4 - Supplemental (unpublished) material will not be accepted.

5 - All print, digital or online elements of the submission must be submitted in a single PDF file.

6 - Additionally, working URL(s) for all online and broadcast elements must be included in the fields provided on the submission form.

7 - For broadcast elements, each organization/submitter is required to "host" their own video or audio elements and provide a working URL to a webpage where the embedded video/audio will play.

8 - The first page of your PDF file should include a Cover Letter for the Judges.

9 - The second page of your PDF file should be a numbered List of Elements and their active URLs (if applicable) included in your submission.

10 - Any significant challenge to the honesty, accuracy or fairness of an entry in any category, as well as responses to the challenge, should be included in the submission. Published letters of complaint, corrections or retractions are examples of items relevant to the judging process and should be noted in your Cover Letter or List of Elements and included in your submission.


SPECIFIC GROUP RULES:

1 - Each submission shall consist of no more than five (5) elements of a single format of journalism designated for each Specific Group category.

2 - Designated category element types, for the Specific Group, are as follows: individual article(s), broadcast segments (television, radio or online video), online element (including blogs).

3 - Supplemental (unpublished) material will not be accepted.

4 - For print specific categories:

a.   All print elements of the submission must be submitted in a single PDF file.

b.   If print elements are also available online, you can include working URL(s) in the fields provided on the submission form.

c.   The first page of your PDF file should include a Cover Letter for the Judges.

d.   The second page of your PDF file should be a numbered List of Elements and their active URLs (if applicable) included in your submission.

5 - For broadcast specific category:

a.   Each organization/submitter is required to "host" their own video or audio element and provide one (1) working URL to a webpage where the embedded video/audio will play.

b.   Submissions may consist of one full length program OR one package of up to five (5) segments covering a single topic or subject . A package should consist of up to five (5) segments of the same platform (television, radio or online video). 

c.   The PDF file should be a Cover Letter for the Judges.

d.   It is not necessary to include transcripts.

6 - For online specific category:

a.   Working URL(s) for all online elements must be included in the fields provided on the submission form.

b.   Additionally, screenshots of all online elements of the submission must be submitted in a single PDF file.

c.   The first page of your PDF file should include a Cover Letter for the Judges.

d.   The second page of your PDF file should be a numbered List of Elements and their active URL(s) included in your submission.

 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD & LAWRENCE MINARD EDITOR AWARD SUBMISSIONS RULES:

1 - Please be prepared to provide the nominee's name, title and organization.

2 - In a single PDF file, please provide a statement of justification and a biography.

3 - For editor award submissions only: If available, please provide additional references from journalists whose work the nominee has edited, with a description of how the work was enhanced by the nominee's input. Please submit the additional references in a single PDF file.

4 - You may nominate more than one journalist and/or editor.

5 - All nominations must be submitted online.
