My selection as a Loeb Awards finalist in 2010 for my blog re: The Auditors forced me to acknowledge to myself, and publicly, that I'm not just a "professional who writes" but a professional writer. Several doors have opened up as a result, including my new column at Forbes.com, Accounting Watchdog. I'm so glad I took the risk of testing my work against that of professional journalists.
