Brief Bio:

I am a professor of economics at UCLA Anderson, and area chair of the Global Economics and Management group. My research focuses on economic growth and development, political economy, and economic history. In a secondary strand of research, I examine the relationship between firm productivity and international trade. At Anderson, I teach the core class in managerial economics, Global Immersion / International Business Residential classes in Germany and Italy, as well as a PhD class on "The Political Economy of Economic Development."

I earned my Ph.D. in economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. During the last year of my PhD, I was invited to UC Berkeley as a visiting researcher. I have also taught my PhD class at Harvard University and at University College London. My research is regularly published in the "top-5" journals in economics. In addition to my academic experience, I have worked as an associate for McKinsey & Co. and as a consultant to the German Stock Exchange. I have been a keynote speaker and panelist at numerous national and international conferences. I currently serve as associate editor of the American Economic Review.
