The Web as an Educational Tool
For this category, ways to use the Web to assist with the educational
process (excluding administrative applications such as course registration,
etc.) are identified. There are literally hundreds of examples to select
for each category, and we invite your recommendations as you identify sites
which would help others.
- Faculty/Student Homepages: A
way of conveying information about the instructor and students, to one
another and the general public.
- Syllabi: An alternative to the hard copy version;
some faculty like to add material weekly rather than have the completed
syllabus up at the beginning of the term.
- Lecture Material: Example of posting
of course slides for students to download
- Resources Available to Faculty:
Access to the Harvard Publishing for on-line information on case and other
materials.
- Communication: Examples of virtual office
hours, chat groups, and forums.
- Organization Tool: Using the web as
a front-end to classes and individual student material.
- Student Projects: Course papers which
are "turned in" electronically so that other students can peer
review them.
- Web-based Instruction/Courses:
The virtual classroom: formal courses offered via the web open to anyone
at anytime.
- Quizzes and Surveys: Ability to
post a quiz on the past weeks material so that students can do a self assessment
of what was presented.
- Models and Data Analysis: Use
of Java based computational models to provide analysis of real time data.
