The Web as a Phenomenon
To understand the web as a phenomenon would entail looking at how it
works technically as well as policy issues and commerical opportunties.
Topics would include:
- The Technology: Building personal web
pages and managing an entire web site as well as the software tools for
doing these activities
- Socio-economic
Impacts and Significance: History and evolution, electronic commerce
and changing business practices, as well as impact on industries, communities,
and governments
Different aspects of this material may be (should be?) introduced within
established courses, or studied extensively as an entirely new course offering.
A variety of approaches and courses in many disciplines are looking at
the web. You can study the web from the web without ever going to a "school"
or you can get "credit" with formal courses about the web from
established institutions.
