UCLA’s African American Leadership Institute distills the wisdom and experience of the nation's top African American corporate leaders and public figures and identifies the tools required to prepare today's African American executives for tomorrow's organizational leadership.
During a 5-month engagement of provocative and stimulating work on the state of African American leadership, you will dig deep into key issues from a personal, interpersonal, and organizational perspective and take away a practical toolkit to increase productivity, leverage, and value to your organization.

The three day on-campus experience is the hub of a five month engagement, with extensive pre-work and assessments, and in-depth post-program analysis that reinforce insights gained, gauge your progress and drive home the workplace applicability of what you’ve learned.
Leadership assessment tools — including the Birkman Method Assessment—are used on the assumption that leaders perform better the more they understand their personal leadership style. You take these assessments prior to your arrival on campus and their results will be used to guide your on-campus experience.
Coaching – divided into coaching clusters, you and your cohorts will serve as peer mentors in-person during the program and as a virtual developmental community afterwards. Each coaching cluster will work with a professional coach to ensure progress is tracked and goals are achieved. You will also have the chance to work with a coach individually to define your personal goals and develop specific leadership competencies.
Action Journal – This comprehensive reference resource is the compass that will guide your progress through the Institute. It contains materials with personal application questions, space to note your “ah-ha” moments, and additional post-program readings. In essence, the Field Journal tells you what you can expect from each session and how it applies to your workplace. It will also help you to understand what is expected of you.

Who Should Attend?
The UCLA African American Leadership Institute envisages a participant who has experience managing people or projects (or both) and has approximately five years or more management experience. She/he will be able to bring to the program experience in identifying and working through the leadership challenges and opportunities faced by managers in a corporate, public sector, entrepreneurial or non-profit environment.
Program Format and Fees
The UCLA African American Leadership Institute comprises a five-month experience centered in a three-day, on-campus immersion in releasing your leadership potential. The fee of $6,250 includes: The on-campus sessions, web conference program Kick Off, Birkman Assessment, Leadership Capabilities Assessment, three Individualized coaching sessions, two coaching cluster Web Conferences, an Action Journal, educational materials and most meals while attending the on-campus session.
