Course Waivers

Based on prior educational and work experience, you may decide that you would like the opportunity to waive out of some of your required core courses.  To waive out of a course, you can take an exam that would be similar to a final exam that might be given for that class. The exams may employ a combination of multiple choice, paragraph-style, or short essay questions.   While a course waiver excuses you from taking a core class, it does not reduce the minimum number of units required to earn your MBA degree, and at some point you will need to make up those units. Waiver Exam dates and details will be posted in July.

Waiver exams will be offered only for the following 4 core classes:

  1. Accounting (Mgmt 403: Financial Accounting)
  2. Economics (Mgmt 405: Managerial Economics)
  3. Finance (Mgmt 408: Foundations of Finance)
  4. Statistics (Mgmt 402: Data & Decisions)

Please note that we do not offer any kind of preparation materials for these exams.  We recommend that you consult the syllabi for the courses as the best gauge of what will be covered on the exams. The syllabi will also be posted in July.

CPA Waiver

Your accounting course may be waived without taking an examination.  If you have a current CPA license from any state, you may waive Mgmt 403: Financial Accounting.  Simply forward a copy of the CPA certificate or letter to Otha Stubblefield at otha.stubblefield@anderson.ucla.edu.  Many states have online verification of CPAs, so you can send a screenshot of that information, if convenient.  Please be sure to put "WAIVER" in the subject line of your e-mail.
