Mauricio G. Villena


Mauricio G. Villena is a full time Professor/Researcher and Postgraduate and Research Vice Dean at the Business School of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.

Professor Villena held the position of Assistant Professor in the Masters (MPhil.) Program of the Centre for Latin American Studies at the University of Cambridge, and was also an Examiner for it, in the subject “Economic issues in Contemporary Latin America”. In Chile, Professor Villena has worked as full time Professor/Researcher for the Department of Economics at the Universidad de Concepción, where he actively took part in both undergraduate teaching in the Business Administration Degree and postgraduate teaching in the Master in Applied Economics Program; he also carried out research there. In addition, he held the position of professor in the Master of Arts Program (M.A.) in Economics, at ILADES/Georgetown, of the Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Santiago.

Mauricio G. Villena is Managing Partner of the consultancy firm: “SCL Econometrics S.A.”, where he has carried out more than 50 consultancy studies for national and international companies and government agencies, including: Department of Economics, Treasury Department, National Economic Prosecutor’s Office, Civil Aeronautical, ENTEL, Movistar, Santiago Airport, ADT, Association of AFPs (Private Pension Plan Companies), TVN, LAN, CMET, Chilesat, ENAP, SVS, SISS, SERNATUR (National Tourism Service), Institute for the Development of Fishing, Fishing Undersecretary, Department of Education, CORFO, CONAMA, BID, European Union, USAID, etc.

In terms of academia, Professor Villena has presented his research at national and international economics congresses and he has published in various national and international journals of economics with editorial committees.

In 1999 Professor Villena was distinguished with the prize for the best essay in Institutional Economics, given by the Association for Evolutionary Economics, New York, USA. He has won Fondecyt Projects in Economics, awarded by Conicyt Chile, for various subjects: in 2003 for research into the area of the theory of evolutionary games, in 2006 for develop research into the area of environmental economics and in 2010 for a proposal in the area of the economics of crime. Professor Villena has been distinguished at the UAI with the Pedro Ibáñez Medal for academic excellence in the years 2004 and 2005.
