Admissions Requirements

Application Requirements

Required Educational Background

A candidate for admission must hold a 4-year bachelor's degree from a university of fully recognized standing. Applicants who have attended institutions outside the United States should have completed 16 years of study; 12 years must be completed at the elementary and secondary school levels and 4 years at the college level. Evidence of strong quantitative skills is required, regardless of the undergraduate major.

Official Transcripts:

All applicants are required to submit sealed official records from each academic institution attended after secondary/high school. Transcripts from exchange programs and/or other courses are not required, as long as the grades appear on the transcript from the school that awarded your degree.

Although no specific major is required; we consider the courses you studied to ensure you have the needed quantitative and analytical preparation.

Executive MBA Admissions uses the scanned transcript in your application to evaluate your academic qualifications, but official transcripts must be sent concurrently with the completed application before your application goes to the faculty admissions committee.

Official records are defined as original transcripts issued by the institution which bear the actual signature of the Registrar -- not a photocopy -- plus the seal of the issuing institution.

All official transcripts must show the following:

  • »
    Enrollment date
  • »
Subjects/Courses taken with the number of units of credit or time allotted to each subject taken
  • »
If the rank is determined, rank in the total class or group
  • »
A complete description of the institution's grading scale or other standard of evaluation
  • »
Maximum & minimum marks and the steps between them.

Have sealed official transcripts sent to:

International applicants

Additional requirements are necessary for international applicants educated outside of the United States.

International Applicants

The Executive Assessment (EA),  Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are the universal measure by which we compare candidates. If you have an advanced degree in a quantitative area and/or extensive experience in a quantitative field, you may petition that the test be waived. Please email us if you think you meet the criteria to waive the exams and would like to petition for the waiver.

Within the EMBA application, you must report the test date and score you want the Admissions Committee to evaluate.

Applications will only be reviewed when test scores, as self-reported by the candidate or officially by the GMAT/GRE/EA office, are documented.

No minimum test score is required, since the Admissions Committee has the flexibility to consider all scores in the context of your overall academic preparation and management potential.

Official GMAT score reports are sent electronically upon your request from Pearson VUE to UCLA Anderson Executive MBA Admissions (with the School Code 2NZ-2F-87). We evaluate the test score that you indicate on your application and send officially to UCLA Anderson

For further information and testing arrangements, please visit the GMAT website HERE.

For those taking the GRE, you must have your official GRE score sent electronically to our code for UCLA Anderson School of Management EMBA Program: 7295.

For further information and testing arrangements, please visit the GRE website HERE.

For those taking the EA, you must arrange to have your official EA score sent electronically to UCLA Anderson School of Management EMBA Program when taking the exam.

The Executive Assessment is specifically designed to evaluate the business school readiness of seasoned professionals. The assessment focuses on skills that are critical both at work and in an EMBA program: higher order reasoning, critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving. Because it was designed specifically for experienced professionals, it requires minimal preparation, takes only 90 minutes to complete, and includes flexible rescheduling options. The test is administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), creators of the GMAT exam.

For further information and testing arrangements, please visit the EA website HERE.

Work Experience

We look for students with professional experience from a wide range of industries, including government, law, media & entertainment, aerospace, technology, medicine, and communications.

Our candidates have earned degrees in many different fields of study and many have advanced degrees.

We value the diversity of professional experience and backgrounds that non-business and nonprofit backgrounds bring to the program.

While some applicants lack formal business training and/or experience, they can thrive in our collaborative academic environment.

We are most impressed by increasing levels of responsibility over time; those who advance faster than their peers are the ones who get admitted first.

At UCLA EMBA, you will find your study group to be your personal board of directors and support network.

Students bring expertise to the class, helping those with different experience and business backgrounds to meet common goals.

Online Recommendation Form:
Provide contact information for two recommenders who can complete the Online Recommendation Form. Letters of recommendation need to be from individuals who are well acquainted with your performance in a work setting.

Recommendations provide us with third-party confirmation and insights into your achievements. You should choose two recommenders who will support your candidacy with concrete examples of performance and impact on the organization.

  • Recommendations must be submitted on-line, not via hard-copy responses to these questions.
  • You must register your recommenders, who then use the confidential on-line link they receive directly from Apply Yourself. Your recommenders also have the option to upload an additional document if desired.
  • Only two recommendations are accepted per application.
  • Recommendations should be from a current and former direct supervisor who is best equipped to answer questions about your leadership, communication, teamwork, initiative and other skills.
  • If you are unable to ask a current supervisor for a recommendation, then you can ask a manager from another department, or a consultant or client who knows you well enough to answer the questions insightfully.
  • Academic contacts are not usually able to provide information on management potential. Similarly, family members, peers and friends are not appropriate as recommenders.

Interviews are rarely the deciding factor in an admissions decision; instead they typically mirror or round out information already provided in the application. Instructions on how to set up an interview are provided at the time of invitation. Interviews are held on-campus, or via Skype, and they last approximately 30 minutes. Business attire is appropriate for this professional interview.

Reapplicants (who first applied in the past 2 years) have a different set of requirements than first-time applicants. Reapplicants are required to submit the reapplicant essay found in the "Essays" tab and are encouraged to submit an updated resume. The Admissions Committee will refer to your previous application when considering your admission, but a complete new application must be submitted online. Reapplicants should also note that standardized test scores (GMAT/GRE, TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), letters of recommendation and official transcripts received from your previous application remain on file and do not need to be resent.
