As promised, here is an important announcment from our VP of Internal Affairs regarding the Section Representative Elections for the class of 2012:

Dear 2012s,

First of all, I would like to welcome you all to Anderson! We are extremely excited to have the class of 2012 joining the Anderson community and look forward to hearing your ideas and insights throughout your time at Anderson. I am especially excited for the upcoming FEMBA Council elections that will take place in each of your sections this coming week. Sorry about the minor confusion regarding the timing of the elections (it was just a test to see if you were paying attention?). Please see the list of times below in case you are not sure when the elections for your section will take place. Below I have also outlined how we will approach the elections so you know what to expect.

Step 1: Declare your candidacy!
If you haven't already done so, send a message to our section (the e-mail address is: femba2012-X@anderson.ucla.edu where 'X' is your section number; just remember that you need to send it from your Anderson e-mail address or the message will bounce back) to declare your candidacy. Make sure to note which position you are running for: Internal Rep., External Rep., or Social Rep.

If you have already declared your candidacy, please send me a very short e-mail so I can keep track of how many people are running for which positions in each section. If you haven't declared your candidacy yet, please just copy me on the message so we can plan accordingly for the elections and so I can make sure everyone is added to the ballots for each section (see below).

Step 2: Get ready for your speech and the election
On the day of the election, a representative from the FEMBA Executive Council will come to your class to administer the election. Below are the rules for this election, though these can be changed by the FEMBA Executive Council representative at the time of the election as needed.

Each candidate will have up to 1 minute to make a speech to their section. For each position, we will have the candidates speak in random order (the candidates will draw lots, cards, or something to determine the order) until each of the candidates have had a chance to speak. Then we will move on to the next position, until all candidates running for all positions have had a chance to speak. After that, we will hand out ballots pre-printed with the names of the candidates who have informed me that they are running in advance (and space for any write-in votes, candidates I mistakenly excluded, or late additions).

In the case of a tie for a given role, the candidates who have tied will have up to an additional 1 minute to make a speech, and then a runoff election will be held among those candidates who have tied. If there is still a tie after that, your section will get a "talking to" by the FEMBA Executive Council representative administering the election, and then some random test of skill will be held (footrace, arm-wrestling, long division... anything to break the tie) until a decision can be made.

Step 3: Represent your section!
Your chosen representative should plan to attend the first FEMBA Council meeting during lunch on Saturday, October 10th. In the meanwhile, should the representative have any questions, they can contact me directly or they can send a message to femba-council@fembacouncil.com.

Here are the times of the elections just in case...

  • Sections 1, 2, and 4 - Elections will take place immediately following your Saturday morning class lecture at 12:45pm on September 26th. Some of the FEMBA Exec Council reps will be coming from class, so if they are running a few minutes late please wait for them to arrive before starting.

  • Section 3 - Elections will take place immediately before your class on Thursday, September 24th at 6:15pm. I will be there to help administer the election for your section.

If you have any questions about the election, or what it means to be a representative, or just about life in general, feel free to check out the FEMBA Council homepage or just send a message to me directly.

I look forward to meeting all of you very soon!

September 22nd, 2009

Due to a (proposed) shift in fall 2009 class schedule, the 2012 all-day Saturday sections will have their FEMBA Council elections re-scheduled to 12:45pm, after the morning lecture. An email will go out to all 2012 students announcing this once the new schedule becomes official.

Summer is drawing to close and the FEMBA Council is gearing up for another action-packed term. Are you in the class of 2012? Are you interested in participating on the Council? Take a look at our site. If you have questions, please contact any of the executive officers or speak with your Leadership Foundation TA's.

Elections will take place before your first lecture for the Fall quarter. For Section 3, this means September 24th, for section 1, 2 and 4, this means September 26th.

If you'd like to run for a Section Representative position, there are two things you must do:

  1. Declare your candidacy to your section! You may do this via email by sending an announcement to femba2012-X@anderson.ucla.edu where 'X' is your section number. This distribution list only accepts email from Anderson accounts, so you must send from your UCLA Anderson email account.
  2. Prepare a persuasive 60 second oral presentation to be delivered to your section in the 15 minutes before the first lecture of Fall quarter - a FEMBA Council moderator will be present to facilitate the election immediately afterwards.

Good luck! And don't forget to make yourself available Oct 10th from 12:30p-2:00p for our first Council Meeting on campus!

Dear World Wide Web Visitor,

On behalf of the newly elected 2010 FEMBA Council Executive Board, I’d like to thank the 2009 FEMBA Council for its efforts this year and welcome the new members who have volunteered to serve in the year ahead. We hope to continue the FEMBA Council’s tradition of incubating and realizing ideas which improve the Anderson experience. As the 2010 Council leadership positions itself for the year ahead, rest assured that both old and new administrations are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition.

In the weeks ahead this site will be updated with information about the ongoing efforts of the FEMBA Council. Should you have any questions, your local Section Representatives will be happy to assist.
