Description

The Fully Employed MBA (FEMBA) Student Council is the voice of the FEMBA student body at UCLA Anderson. FEMBA Council consists of 46 total members: 7 Executive Board members and 39 Section Representatives (an elected External, Internal, and Social Representative in each of the 13 sections of the FEMBA program).

The Council is responsible for the academic and social wellbeing of the FEMBA student body, working with fellow classmates, alumni, faculty, and staff to ensure that the needs of the FEMBA student body are considered in decisions affecting student life. FEMBA Council provides an opportunity for students to take theoretical lessons of leadership and teamwork and put them into practice to have a real and measurable impact..

Position Responsibilities

External Representative
The external representative works with career services and the alumni network to ensure that their section is aware of the resources and events offered by ProMBA Career Services and the Office of Alumni Services. The external representative attends ProMBA Career Services Committee meetings and FEMBA Alumni Relations and Development Committee meetings, represents the FEMBA student body at alumni events and participates in the annual Anderson Affiliates campaign. The external representative should send out at least one section email per month with information on upcoming career services events and deadlines.
Internal Representative
The internal representative handles most of their section’s academic and logistical issues, which may include resolving section scheduling conflicts, communicating student concerns to faculty and administration and keeping the section informed of new developments on campus. The internal representative should send out at least one section email per month with information on upcoming events and deadlines.
Social Representative
The social representative plans social and networking events, including after-class happy hours, section lunches/dinners, cultural outings, athletic events and other activities that his or her section is interested in. The social representative should make every effort to ensure that these events appeal to all of their FEMBA peers and is highly encouraged to collaborate with social representatives from other sections and years. The social representative is required to learn and follow the expense reimbursement policy in order to plan the use of their section’s annual social budget. The social representative should send out regular emails with information on upcoming activities.

Doug Longo
President

Doug is the President of FEMBA Council. He began his career as an Associate for Bear Stearns & Co. at its world headquarters in New York City, where he completed a three-year Fixed Income Management Training Program. During the three-year program, Doug gained experience across all credit markets to include corporate, municipal, mortgage-backed and government debt.  His ultimate destination was as an Associate on the U.S. Treasury and Agency Security trading desk. 

In November 2006, Doug joined Bear Stearns's Century City office and later transitioned to Merrill Lynch in April 2008.  With his experience in the fixed income markets, Doug develops and manages a fixed income portfolio with approximately $400 million in assets. 

Prior to working on Wall Street, Doug was one of the youngest Sergeants in the history of the United States Marine Corps, and was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal for leading his platoon on multiple operations in the Middle East.  Doug earned a B.S. in Finance on an academic and athletic scholarship at C.W. Post.

Brian Sterz
Executive Vice President

 Brian currently serves as Executive Vice President of the FEMBA Council.  After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley, Brian's career has included roles in equity derivatives trading on the floor of the Pacific Coast Options Exchange and fixed income investment manager research for a large institutional investment consultant, both in San Francisco, and portfolio management at an independent wealth management firm based in Los Angeles.  He left this most recent position to accept an investment banking summer associate position at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Los Angeles. 

At Anderson, Brian also serves on the board of the Investment Finance Association (IFA) as its Vice President of FEMBA Relations.  He was an Anderson Student Asset Management (ASAM) fellow and has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.  Brian is originally from Los Angeles.

Linda Tran
VP, External Affairs

Linda is a Southern California native.  She spent four years in Northern California attending UC Berkeley and earning a B.A. in Economics before moving right back to Los Angeles.  During her time at Berkeley, she was actively involved in the Regents and Chancellors Scholars Association, Rally Committee and Alpha Phi Omega.  Linda currently works at Bank of the West, specializing in Asset Based Lending. 

At UCLA Anderson, Linda is focusing on finance and has been actively involved in FEMBA council, serving as Internal and External Representative.  She is also involved in the Women's Business Connection and the Asian Management Student Association.  In her free time, Linda enjoys trying new things (particularly restaurants), wine, and traveling.

Kari Schumaker
VP, Internal Affairs

Kari Schumaker is the VP of Internal Affairs. Kari began her career as an employee of the California State Water Resources Control Board in Sacramento. After working for two years on environmental regulatory compliance and watershed management for the State, she returned to her native southern California to pursue a position with the County of Orange. During her six years with the County, Kari has served in various roles, including Grant Administrator, Watershed Manager and most recently, Energy Initiatives Coordinator.

In addition to FEMBA Council, Kari has also been involved with Net Impact at UCLA Anderson. During her remaining spare moments, she attempts to squeeze in as much travel, horseback riding, skiing, outdoor adventuring, and quality time with friends as possible.

Liam Leonard
VP, Marketing

Liam grew up in Los Angeles before attending Yale University in New Haven, CT where he earned a B.A. in economics. He also spent a semester in Beijing, China as part of the Yale-Peking University program where he studied Chinese culture and International Studies. After graduation he moved back to Los Angeles to work for Nestlé where he held several roles including assignments based in Mexico City and Sao Paulo. Currently, Liam works in marketing at Naked Juice in Monrovia, California.

Liam is attending UCLA Anderson School of Management to pursue his MBA with an emphasis on Finance and International Management. After serving two years as an internal and social section representative, he was honored to be elected as the VP of Marketing for FEMBA council for 2013-2014. In additional to his FEMBA council responsibilities, he also serves as a VP of the Anderson Soccer Club and the President of a local Toastmasters club. He enjoys traveling internationally, playing soccer, good food and spending time with family and friends.

David Duong
VP, Social Affairs

David D. Duong is a beach bum born and raised in sunny San Diego.  He made his move to Los Angeles to attend UCLA for undergrad where he studied Accounting and Economics.  While at UCLA, he danced for several hip hop dance crews on campus and yes, he was a part of those dance teams that practice in the parking lots until the early AMs.

After graduation, David earned his CPA in public accounting while co-founding BakeGreek, a start-up CPG company that sold Greek Letter Cookie Cutters. Through BakeGreek, he realized his passion for marketing and started on his journey to make the switch.  After about 2 years of hustling in various marketing jobs to build experience, he landed at UCLA Anderson and shortly after that, was hired for as a Strategic Marketing Manager for Electronic Arts. 

David is amped to be the new VP of Social and Networking Affairs and is excited to bring the Anderson programs, as a whole, closer than they have ever been before.  Through the events this year, he hopes to help his classmates create bonds that will transcend the walls of Anderson.

Outside of academics, David loves to dance, read comic books, skimboard, bike and produce YouTube videos...pretty random set of hobbies huh?

Brandon Flora
VP, Council Affairs

Brandon Flora is the VP of Council Affairs.  He completed his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Marketing Management, and has since worked in several business functions within the Defense and Technology industries.  Most recently, Brandon worked for Qualcomm for three and a half years as a Program Manager and Senior Financial Analyst on a variety of software development programs.  After leaving Qualcomm in June 2013, he pursued a corporate finance internship with VMware in Palo Alto, CA.  Brandon is also an active member in the Anderson community where he serves as a Project Manager for the Anderson Strategy Group, VP of FEMBA Relations for the Management Consulting Association, and member in the Investment Finance and High Tech Business Associations.
