James R. Maddox, Jr. ("Jay") is a Principal of Avison Young, where he specializes in strategic advisory and capital markets solutions for major real estate owners, developers and investors. Prior to joining Avison Young, Mr. Maddox was Managing Director of Real Estate for Kibel Green, Inc. a boutique advisory firm, where he led more than $2 billion of financial restructurings, bankruptcy reorganizations, and recapitalizations for real estate clients.
Mr. Maddox has more than 30 years of real estate and corporate finance transaction experience with major firms including Citicorp, Weyerhaeuser Mortgage, ARCS Commercial Mortgage (now PNC Real Estate) and Gramercy Capital. Jay's real estate expertise spans virtually all types of financing from senior debt to mezzanine to equity, as well as most types of commercial and residential properties, in both healthy and distressed markets. He has participated as a speaker at a number of industry events, served as a guest lecturer at both UCLA Anderson School of Management and UCLA School of Law, and has testified in Federal and State Court as an expert witness on commercial real estate financing matters. Mr. Maddox has also provided financial and strategic leadership to several start-up and emerging growth technology companies as prior Co-Principal of Private Equity Partners LLC.
Jay holds an MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Management and a BA from Claremont McKenna College.
