UCLA Anderson Forecast Quarterly Economic Outlook - Solutions for Our City
7:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., JW Marriott L.A. Live, Downtown Los Angeles. Water isn't the only drought in Los Angeles. Los Angeles, Detroit and Cleveland share the dubious distinction of cities with the weakest job growth since 1990. That's a shocking club for Los Angeles to be a member of. Many of the problems the city currently faces would be less severe if employment and city revenues had been growing more rapidly. Themed "Solutions for Our City," this UCLA Anderson Forecast presentation focuses on job readiness and job availability. What can we do to ensure that our children will be ready for the jobs of the 21st Century? What can we do to make sure that employers will be attracted to Los Angeles? The keynote presentation will be provided by Eric Garcetti, Mayor, City of Los Angeles. Registration closes on 3/31/14. Use registration code: "ziman0414" to receive the discounted individual admission rate of $125. For a full list of speakers and to register, click here.

StimULI Breakfast: The California Drought - H2 Uh Oh!
7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Greenberg Glusker, 1900 Avenue of the Stars, 21st Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90067. The March ULI StimULI breakfast will delve deeply into the availability of water in California. California's water supply is seriously dwindling. The first three months of 2013 were the driest on record and reservoirs in Northern California, which supply the majority of water for Southern California, are at frighteningly low levels. And it isn't expected to get any better soon. Studies also show that Southern California's other major source of water, the Colorado River, will not be able to keep up with the additional demand as a result of drought, population growth and climate change. And while commercial real estate accounts for approximately 12 percent of water use, it does not diminish the fact that there is a need for smarter, more efficient use of water in the built environment. Participants include: Matthew E. Kahn, Director of Research, UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate, and Professor; Brandon Goshi, Manager, Resource Analysis, Metropolitan Water District; Tracy Rafter, CEO/Los Angeles County Business Federation; Richard Restuccia, Director of Water Management Solutions/ValleyCrest Companies; and Eric Garner, Managing Partner and Water Rights Attorney; Best, Best & Krieger. For more information and to register, see the ULI-LA website.
