Rob Arnott, Research Affiliates, Chairman ＆ Chief Executive Officer
Over his 30-year career, Robert Arnott has endeavored to bridge the worlds of academic theorists and financial markets. His success in doing so has resulted in a reputation as one of the world's most provocative practitioners and respected financial analysts.
Rob has pioneered several unconventional portfolio strategies that are now widely applied, including tactical asset allocation, global tactical asset allocation, tax-advantaged equity management, and the Fundamental Index® approach to indexation.
In 2002, he established Research Affiliates as a research-intensive asset management firm that focuses on innovative products. The firm explores novel approaches to active asset allocation, optimal portfolio construction, more efficient forms of indexation and other quantitative strategies. Research Affiliates delivers investment solutions globally in partnership with leading financial institutions.
Rob has been a frequent contributor to leading financial journals and books. He has published more than 100 articles in journals such as the Journal of Portfolio Management, the Harvard Business Review, and the Financial Analysts Journal, where he also served as editor in chief from 2002 through 2006. In recognition of his achievements as a financial writer, Rob has received six Graham and Dodd Scrolls, awarded annually by CFA Institute for best articles of the year. He also has received two Bernstein-Fabozzi/Jacobs-Levy awards from the Journal of Portfolio Management.
Iman H. Brivanlou, PhD
Senior Vice President, Trust Company of the West
Dr. Brivanlou is a Senior Analyst in TCW's Equity Research Department where his coverage includes the real estate, insurance, business services, transports and consumer staples sectors. He sits on the Investment Product Review Committee for Buchanan Street Partners, TCW's direct real estate investment unit. He joined TCW in 2005 as an intern, and full time as an Equity Analyst in 2006 after completing his MBA in Finance and Strategy from UCLA's Anderson School of Management. While at UCLA, he developed and tested quantitative models aimed at predicting the sizes of catalyst 'events' for Kayne Anderson, a hedge fund in Century City. Prior to UCLA, he worked as a lead consultant for APS, where he founded the firm's Southern California Healthcare practice. Dr. Brivanlou holds a BS in Physics from MIT, a PhD in Computational Neuroscience from Harvard, and was a Howard Hughes post-doctoral fellow in Molecular Neurobiology at the Salk Institute in La Jolla.
Vice President and Equity Research Analyst, High Mark Capital
Timothy Davidson joined HighMark Capital Management in 2008 as an equity analyst for the Value Equity Strategy Group. He manages approximately $1.3B in assets including the HighMark Value Equity Fund (HMVMX). Timothy has more than 9 years investment management and banking experience with firms including Sanford Bernstein and Nuveen Investments. Timothy received a Masters of Business Administration in Finance and Strategy from the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management and a Bachelor's degree in Finance from Abilene Christian University. In addition, Timothy is an active member of the CFA Society of Los Angeles and is a CFA charter holder.
Investment Associate, UCLA Investment Company
Mr. Edwards is involved in all aspects of managing The UCLA Foundation endowment portfolio. Prior to joining UCLA, Mr. Edwards received an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, where he was a Student Investment Fund Fellow. Mr. Edwards has six years of experience in financial services, including five years as a CPA at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he performed financial statement analysis and tax consulting engagements for Technology, Media, and Telecom clients. Mr. Edwards received a BS in Public Finance and a MA in Accounting from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Portfolio Manager, MAZE Investments
Adam has worked in the investment industry since 2002 as an equity analyst and portfolio analyst at firms including J.P. Morgan, Wellington Management, and Poplar Forest Capital (lineage to the Capital Group). At J.P. Morgan, his team was ranked among the best on the Street by both Institutional Investor and Greenwich Associates. Mr. Epstein received a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan followed by an MA in Economics with Distinction from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mr. Epstein earned an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
Associate Professor of Finance at the Anderson School of Management
Mark Garmaises' primary research interests are in the areas of corporate finance, real estate, entrepreneurship and banking. With his co-author Tobias Moskowitz, he received the 2004 BGI Brennan Award for the best paper published in the Review of Financial Studies and the 2005 BGI Runner-up Award for the best paper published in the Review of Financial Studies. Dr. Garmaise teaches the core corporate finance course and an elective on venture capital and private equity. He was awarded the 2005 Dean George W. Robbins Assistant Professor Teaching Award, the 2006, Eric and "E" Juline Excellence in Research Award, the 2007 Citibank Teaching Award for most outstanding MBA teacher and the 2009 Fully Employed MBA Teaching Excellence Award. He has published in the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Finance and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. Dr. Garmaise taught at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business before joining the faculty at UCLA Anderson. Anderson School of Management and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Jason Hsu, Ph.D
Co-Founding Principal and Chief Investment Officer, Research Affiliates
Dr. Jason Hsu oversees the research and investment management areas at Research Affiliates. He directs research on the asset allocation models and a range of alternative beta strategies that are built on the RAFI® Fundamental Index® concept. "A Survey of Alternative Equity Index Strategies," which he co-authored, won a 2011 Graham and Dodd Scroll and the Readers' Choice Award from the CFA Institute. In 2005, he won the William F. Sharpe Award for Best New Index Research.
In addition, Jason is an adjunct professor in finance at the Anderson School of Management at UCLA and a visiting professor in international finance at the Taiwan National University of Political Science (NCCU). He has also taught financial management at the Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine, and at the Shanghai University of Financial Economics.
Executive Vice President, PIMCO
Mr. Kinkelaar is an executive vice president and global equity portfolio manager in the Newport Beach office. He is also head of the PIMCO Dividend Team, a member of PIMCO's Americas Portfolio Committee and a rotating member of PIMCO's Investment Committee. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2011, he was managing director and global equity portfolio manager at Thornburg Investment Management. As one of the first three investment professionals on Thornburg's equity team, Mr. Kinkelaar helped build the business from its infancy during more than nine years with the company. He was a co-portfolio manager of the Thornburg Investment Income Builder Fund from its inception in December 2002 until January 2009, as well as associate portfolio manager of the Thornburg International Value Fund and Thornburg Value Fund from 1999 until December 2002. Mr. Kinkelaar began his investment career in the equity investment management department for State Farm Insurance Companies. He has 16 years of investment experience and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University.

Mr. Stallings is an equities portfolio manager and partner in DoubleLine Equity LP. He was previously associated with TCW for 16 years where Mr. Stallings was a Group Managing Director, Senior Portfolio Manager of the TCW Growth Equities Strategy, co-portfolio manager of the TCW Global Technology Strategy and co-head of the TCW Small- and Mid-Cap Growth Equities team. He received a BA in Decision Analysis and Political Science from Stanford University and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College. He is a CFA charter holder.
