The Student Lunch for 8 (or L48) series presents an opportunity for eight or more students to hear from industry leaders over a business casual luncheon or dinner. Students interested in participating must RSVP and send their résumé plus a brief paragraph explaining why they would like to attend. About Rob Arnott:
Rob Arnott is the founder and chairman of Research Affiliates. He is also portfolio manager on the PIMCO All Asset and All Asset All Authority family of funds and the PIMCO RAE™ suite of funds. One of the world’s most provocative practitioners and respected financial analysts, he established Research Affiliates as a research-intensive asset management firm that focuses on innovative products. The firm explores novel approaches to active asset allocation, optimal portfolio construction, efficient forms of indexation, and other quantitative strategies. Research Affiliates delivers investment solutions globally in partnership with leading financial institutions. Arnott has published more than 100 articles in prominent academic journals. In recognition of his achievements as a financial writer, he has received seven Graham and Dodd Scrolls, awarded annually by CFA Institute to the top Financial Analysts Journal articles of the year. About Jason Hsu:
Jason Hsu (Ph.D. ’05) is chairman and CIO of Rayliant Global Advisors and vice chairman of Research Affiliates. Based in Hong Kong, Rayliant Global Advisors is an investment management firm focused on smart beta strategies tailored to the Asian markets, as well as Chinese equity strategies targeted at foreign institutional investors. Hsu is at the forefront of the smart beta revolution and is a recognized innovator and thought leader in the space. Building on his pioneering work on the RAFI™ Fundamental Index™ approach to investing with Rob Arnott in 2005, he has published prize-winning peer-reviewed articles on the topic. In 2005 and 2013, he received the William F. Sharpe Award for Best New Index Research, which is awarded by Institutional Investor Journals, for his research on smart beta. Hsu graduated with a B.S., summa cum laude, in physics from the California Institute of Technology, was awarded an M.S. in finance from Stanford University, and earned his Ph.D. in finance from UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he conducted research on the equity premium, business cycles and portfolio allocations.

Erik Davidson is the chief investment officer for Wells Fargo Private Bank where he oversees more than $180 billion in assets. He leads a team of investment professionals throughout the country who deliver comprehensive, custom, and diversified portfolio management for clients of The Private Bank. In his role, Mr.Davidson serves as the primary spokesperson for The Private Bank investment strategy and oversees global equity and fixed-income portfolio management and research, guided portfolios, investment product, investment tools, and investment analytics.

Mr. Davidson is passionate about bringing clarity to complicated economic and market topics. He is the co-author of Investing in Separate Accounts and contributing co-author of The E-Finance Report, both published by McGraw-Hill. He has authored numerous investment-related articles, speaks at investment-industry conferences, and is regularly featured in the media including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CNBC, FoxBusiness News, Reuters, and Bloomberg.

With more than 20 years of experience in financial services, Mr. Davidson most recently served as deputy chief investment officer for The Private Bank. Prior to joining Wells Fargo in 2004, he co-founded a company that provided separate account technology and operational solutions to financial services firms. Over the course of his career, Mr. Davidson has held various leadership positions, including heading the portfolio management team for Franklin Templeton Private Client Services and overseeing trading of mortgage and asset-backed securities in Asia for Credit Suisse First Boston.

Mr. Davidson earned a Bachelor of Art in Economics from St. Olaf College, a Master of Business Administration in Finance from UCLA-Anderson School of Management, and is a CFA charterholder. Harry McMahon was the Executive Vice Chairman of Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He served as a senior member of the Global Investment Banking and Markets Leadership Team and was principally focused on providing innovative strategic solutions, financial advice and superior execution for a broad array of the firm’s corporate clients worldwide.

McMahon joined Merrill Lynch in 1983 and has held various leadership positions in Global Markets and Investment Banking, including co-head of the Global Corporate Finance group from 1996 to 2003 and Vice Chairman of the firm from 2003 to 2008. Following the merger with Bank of America in 2009, McMahon became the firm’s first Executive Vice Chairman. His broad base of deal experience includes leading teams on more than 400 projects involving either Merger and Acquisitions advisory work or Corporate Finance.

He received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a BA from Claremont McKenna College. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, McMahon worked for the Northern Trust Bank of Chicago in various roles involving commercial lending and corporate finance. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Claremont McKenna College; on the Board of Advisors of the Henry R. Kravis Leadership Institute; on the Selection Committee of the Kravis Prize in Social Leadership; and on the National Council of the American Enterprise Institute. He and his wife, Jacquie, have four children.
