Bill Duff ('96)

CFO, Microsoft Windows & Devices

Duff is Chief Financial Officer for the Windows and Devices Group, which includes the company's Windows, Surface and Xbox businesses. He is responsible for financial reporting, forecasting, analysis, budgeting, investments and strategy for the division. In this role, Duff helped evolve the Windows and Devices business model and drove the Windows business toward the milestone transition to Windows 10.

Duff also played a key role in several strategic deals including the acquisition of Minecraft. Earlier in his career, Bill served as Chief Financial Officer of the Windows Phone Division, as well as other finance roles where he helped drive industry partnerships and strategic initiatives such as the integration of Skype.

Michael King ('96)

VP & General Manager, Global Education Industry, IBM

Michael King is the worldwide leader for the IBM Education Industry with responsibility for strategy, marketing and sales across schools and higher education. He oversees all facets of IBM’s work with K12 schools and higher education institutions, including the development of industry specific solutions. IBM’s portfolio in Education includes consulting and IT services, analytics tools and other software, as well as cloud and high performance computing.

He has been with IBM for over 30 years in various executive and management positions, with most of those in education and learning. Michael’s passion has been constantly leveraging new technology to improve education for institutions and students. He helped deliver programs like ThinkPad University, Insight at School, LearningVillage and many others. Michael also worked in IBM’s corporate training segment, leading marketing, strategy and partner programs. Mostly recently, he helped direct IBM’s strategy for cognitive computing in Education, bringing Watson to classroom, campus, and career.

Michael serves on the board of several organizations focused on Education. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Strada Education Network, supporting their mission of “completion with a purpose”. He serves on the Board of the Business – Higher Education Forum, a leadership group dedicated to improving the alignment of Education with workforce needs. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the IMS Global Learning Consortium, which fosters industry collaboration to build interoperable technology systems through open standards.

Michael holds Bachelors of Science degrees in Physics and Engineering from Kansas State University and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Tin Zaw

Director of Security Solutions, Verizon Digital Media Services

Tin Zaw has served as Verizon Digital Media Services' director of global security solutions since 2015. He and his team provide managed and professional security services protecting their clients' web properties from exterior threats from the internet. He launched the services during his first year at Verizon and continues to grow the business each year.

Prior to joining Verizon, Tin led web and product security teams at AT&T and Intuit. He previously designed and implemented security products at Symantec and participated in the early days of the web infrastructure at Inktomi, which later became part of Yahoo! and now Verizon. He started his career by programming network protocols at QUALCOMM and Cerner.

A long-time volunteer with OWASP, Tin is a former president of its Los Angeles chapter and currently co-leads the OWASP project on Automated Threats to Web Applications. He received the OWASP Chapter Leader of the Year award at the AppSec USA conference in 2013.

Tin has co-authored an authoritative book on automated threats against web applications and holds a number of patents in distributed system security. Tin graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science from Pittsburg State University, Kansas. He obtained a master's degree in computer science from the University of Southern California and an MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business.

Mark Goldin

Mark Goldin is the Chief Technology Officer for Cornerstone OnDemand. In this role, he is responsible for building and directing the company's global technology strategy, which will allow the organization to best scale in the midst of rapid growth. He oversees application architecture, development, quality assurance and technology operations while leading a world-class team of engineers to assure Cornerstone's continued excellence in providing innovative and feature-rich talent management software.

Prior to joining Cornerstone, Mark was the Chief Operations and Technology Officer at Green Dot Corporation where he oversaw application development, IT infrastructure, supply chain and logistics, and call center operations with a team that helped grow valuation by greater than a factor of 10 in just three years. He has also held CTO positions at Thomson Elite (where he conceived, founded and ran SaaS pioneer Elite.com) and DestinationRx.

Kevin Haley

Director Product Manager

Kevin Haley is Director of Product Management for Symantec Security Response where he is responsible for ensuring the security content gathered from Symantec's Global Intelligence Network is actionable for its customers.  This includes educating customers on security issues and incorporating the security content into Symantec's enterprise and consumer product lines.  The valuable security data provides the basis for protecting customers against complex Internet threats and other security risks. 

He served as a technical advisor for Anthony E. Zuiker's digital crime thriller, "Cybergeddon." He also frequently appears as a security expert for media including The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, Good Morning America, MSNBC, USA Today, New York Times, Forbes, Dow Jones and many others.  

During his seventeen years at Symantec, Haley has leveraged his security expertise in the development of the company's antivirus solutions for endpoints and mail servers, and in creating network and system management solutions.  Haley managed a global team of technical product managers who evangelized Endpoint Security Products and were responsible for field enable and technical training for SAV, SCS, SEP v11.0 and SNAC 11.0.

I represent the Workday Chief Technology Office as a North America CTO. I articulate Workdays architecture and security/privacy protections to both existing and prospective customers. I have over 30 years of system architecture experience that spans Database, Dimensional Analysis, Capacity/Performance Planning, Network configuration and protection, Disaster Recovery and Highly Available Infrastructure design. In addition, I have deep ERP solution experience while employed at Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP and ATT. Recently I was a Senior Architect and Security Risk Officer for an Andreessen Horowitz start-up (Tidemark) that offered a Multi-tenant SaaS EPM solution that utilized Big Data, Micro-service, Machine Learning and In-memory Grids for a next generation EPM Budgeting and Planning tool. While at Workday I have supported the Chief Trust Office in conveying Security and Global Data Privacy concerns to prospective customers. I currently live in Chicago.

Reggie Panaligan ('10)

SVP Research + Analytics, Paramount Pictures

Reggie Panaligan is the SVP of Research & Analytics at Paramount Pictures, where he is responsible for maximizing the potential of analytics in improving efficiency of marketing activities and generating insights to enable better decision making in both marketing and distribution.

Prior to this role, Reggie worked at Google as a Brand Insights & Measurement Expert at Google focused on helping brand advertisers make their advertising more accountable in digital and beyond, and as the Media & Entertainment Analytical Lead at Google responsible for uncovering underlying digital trends and developing forward-thinking, data-driven marketing recommendations, in collaboration with digital agencies, movie studios, and television networks. He is the co-author of the study "Quantifying Movie Magic with Google Search" which highlights the recent evolution of the moviegoer decision-making process, as well as the relationship between Google search patterns and box office performance.  

Prior to Google, Reggie worked in management consulting advising clients on marketing strategy, new product development and digital transformation across multiple industries, including entertainment, healthcare, financial services, and real estate. He holds an undergraduate degree from U.C. Berkeley, and earned an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Nick Gold

Chief Revenue Officer and Solutions Consultant, Chesapeake Systems

It was when he was 5 years old that Nick Gold first became passionate about computers. That enthusiasm built through high school and college, where he majored in communication and media studies at Goucher College and was active in the computer music studio program. Ultimately, a series of tech-focused jobs led him to his position at Chesapeake Systems, where he serves as Chief Revenue Officer and Solutions Consultant.

“I’ve been with Chesapeake Systems for 12 years, and I only grow more excited about what we’ll be involved with over the next few years, between virtual reality and 360-degree immersive video platforms that are now hitting the consumer market,” Gold said.

At Chesapeake Systems, though the team has a tremendous depth of technological experience, the main focus lies in consultation and helping customers develop an effective workflow. “Workflows are at the center of every system we design, from a basic video editing system, all the way up to an enterprise-level storage and automation platform,” Gold said. “We want to know what is the job our clients are trying to get done? How are they doing it today, and what useful enhancements can we recommend to make their job easier and more efficient?” When not promoting Chesapeake Systems’ workflow capabilities, Gold loves binge-watching shows online or going out with friends and dancing at a club or warehouse to techno music until the wee hours.

He counts himself among the lucky few who don’t have to differentiate between their “work life” and their “life life.”

“If I could go back in time and tell my college-aged self what I’d be doing a decade and a half into the 21st century, I’m sure I’d be pretty psyched,” Gold said.

Vikram Somaya

Mr. Vikram Somaya has been Senior Vice President and Global Data Officer of ESPN, Inc. since June 2015. Mr. Somaya is responsible for leading ESPN's data strategy as well as working closely with the Disney Media Networks to identify new revenue models and drive key sales strategies. Mr. Somaya has nine years experience in the online media space. He served as General Manager of Weatherfx Division at The Weather Company Pty. Ltd. Mr. Somaya managed M&A, corporate strategy and business development activities for Operative, Inc. Mr. Somaya served as Vice President of Strategy Management at Operative Media, Inc. Mr. Somaya worked at Omniture, where he was responsible for managing marketing management tools across all AOL properties. He coordinated the implementation and utilization of Omniture's industry-leading web analytics platform to maximize revenue generation and marketing analytics across the AOL enterprise. Prior to that, he spent three years at Revenue Science where he worked with clients such as American Express, Daimler Chrysler, GE Finance, J.Crew, EMC, Dow Jones and the Financial Times on both analytic and behavioral targeting engagements. During his time there, he was responsible for managing all East Coast strategic accounts for Revenue Science. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Global Operations and Audience at Thomson Reuters, administrating its global operations and analytics as well as audience derived revenue across various products lines. Additionally, he was responsible for building a successful private programmatic exchange. Mr. Somaya's previous leadership roles include managing director of business development and channel sales at Bluekai, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Milabra, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Phorm. Mr. Somaya began his media career working with Cliff Freeman and Partners working on online and offline media strategies for brands such as Coca Cola, Sauza Tequila, Budget Rent-A-Car and Microsoft. He obtained his BA in Art History from Yale University.

Jason Lee

Principal, Advanced Analytics Group, Bain & Co.

Jason supports advanced analytics and IP development projects across much of Bain's practice areas. He brings special expertise in consumer psychology and marketing sciences including research design, surveys, experimental design, data mining and predictive modeling. Applications include customer loyalty and segmentation, marketing experiments, new product design and forecasting, retail analytics, employee retention, operations improvement and network design. Jason helped develop the statistical underpinnings of Bain's Net Promoter loyalty framework and is currently helping to expand Bain's capabilities in operations and supply chain analytics.

Prior to joining Bain, Jason worked as a senior research and statistical consultant for several boutique marketing science firms and for two analytics software start-ups. He brings substantial expertise consulting in financial service, telecommunication, airline, retail and consumer products companies.

Jason attended undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Utah. He has BA in marketing and Business Administration. His doctoral studies focused on marketing research methods and consumer psychology, specializing in advanced quantitative analysis and conjoint-based techniques for demand forecasting, new product development, price elasticity, segmentation and brand equity.

Yuda Saydun ('82)

Yuda is a global executive with twenty years of experience as an entrepreneur, intrapreneur and senior corporate leader focused on bringing cutting-edge technologies to market.

Prior to his current position at Cylogic.io, Yuda held a series of Senior Management roles at American Express, Tech Data, ClimeCo, and Xerox IT outsourcing services. After building a $700 MM business unit at Tech Data, he co-founded a clean tech project developer where he oversaw clean air projects that are now eliminating over 3 Million tons of carbon a year.

Most recently, he founded Cylogic.io, a Miami-based cyber security solutions provider. Cylogic is focused on enabling clients to improve their cyber security position by orders of magnitude and protect themselves from the disruptive attacks that have been affecting the reputation, operations and intellectual property of enterprise and public sector entities around the globe.

Having lived and worked in Europe, Latin America and the U.S., Yuda is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, and conversational in German. He holds an MBA and a Corporate Director’s Certification from UCLA Anderson, where he was recognized as one of the “Top 100 Inspirational Alumni” of the School’s 75 years.

Allison Holmes

Senior Director of Operations and Strategy, Annenberg Foundation

Allison Holmes is Senior Director of Operations and Strategy at the Annenberg Foundation, where she oversees operations as well as number of initiatives including AnnenbergTech and Annenberg Learner (learner.org).  Prior, she was Director of Marketing, Communications and Education for the Annenberg Foundation, overseeing all communications and marketing strategy for the foundation. For the past 27 years, the Annenberg Foundation has been funding programs in education and youth development; arts, culture and humanities; and civic and community life, to name a few. In addition, the foundation and its board are directly involved in the community with a number of projects that expand and complement its grant support to nonprofits. Among them are initiatives such as Annenberg Alchemy and Alchemy Plus; LAnSync; the Annenberg Space for Photography; Explore.org; the Metabolic Studio; and Annenberg Learner.

Prior to the Annenberg Foundation, Allison served as Associate Dean of Marketing and Communications at UCLA Anderson School of Management where she oversaw a comprehensive rebranding of the school and brokered the first partnership between TED and an institute of higher education.  She also served as Vice President of the G and R Loeb Foundation, managing the most prestigious award program in business journalism, the Gerald Loeb Awards.    Prior to UCLA, Allison served as head of media relations and for the Directors Guild of America, where she started her tenure as managing editor of DGA Magazine.  She began her career as a journalist, serving is such roles as West Coast correspondent for Money Magazine and assistant to syndicated columnist and author Richard Reeves.    Allison received her BA from Duke University and her master's degree in writing from the American Film Institute.  She serves on the Westside Neighborhood Council which is dedicated to bringing neighborhoods together for emergency preparedness.  Allison lives in Los Angeles and has the honor of being mom to three under the age of twelve.

Michael Montgomery

Lecturer, UCLA Anderson and President & Founder, Montgomery Advisory, LLC

Michael J. Montgomery is an advisor and investor in early stage companies, an active board member, and a Lecturer at the Anderson School of Business. Michael was the Co-Founder and President of Montgomery & Co., LLC, a boutique investment bank focused on media and technology, from 1993 through 2013. The Investment Bank specialized in M&A and equity financings for private and occasional public companies. Montgomery & Co. became known for its focus on the intersection of media and technology. Montgomery & Co. merged its operations into Signal Hill in 2013.

Prior to Montgomery & Co., he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sega GameWorks L.L.C., a joint venture between Sega, Universal Studios, and DreamWorks. It owned and operated family entertainment centers across the United States.Prior to joining Sega GameWorks, he was a partner and Senior Executive of DreamWorks SKG from 1995 to 1996. He was their lead executive for their $900 million equity raise in 1995. He also led their real estate efforts to secure land to build their studio in Glendale and their attempted studio at Playa Vista.He joined DreamWorks after a nine year career at the Walt Disney Company.  As Assistant Treasurer and then Vice President and Treasurer, Michael was responsible for numerous innovative financing arrangements conceived and executed for Disney.  This includes the $720 million non-recourse advance for the royalties of Tokyo Disneyland, the first large royalty financing conceived for intellectual property.   He was also instrumental in Silver Screen 2, 3 and 4, and the $600 million Touchwood Film Financing.   He also proposed and then played a key role in the execution of the initial public offering of EuroDisney in 1989.  Upon returning from Paris, he conceived of the first bond with a return indexed to an unrelated security or index.  The $927 million zero coupon bond indexed into Euro Disney's stock value pioneered with the SEC and Wall Street the use of derivative-like structures imbedded in bonds.  In 1993, he moved to Paris, France, to serve as Directeur General and Chief Financial Officer of Euro Disney, where he played an important role in a difficult financial and operational restructuring.Before joining Disney, he worked at ARCO in its treasury organization. From 1980 to 1984, he also served as CFO and later President of Arco Solar Europe, a subsidiary of Arco Solar, in Milan, Italy and later, London, UK.   At that time, Arco Solar was the largest solar photovoltaic company in the world.He has been a Director of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. since July 2006, and of a Director of Synacor, Inc. since December 2011. He chairs the Audit Committee for both companies. He is also on the board of Open Methods and M3Bio, both private companies.He received an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College (1977), where he holds a BA degree as a Rufus Choate Scholar with magna cum laude honors.

Vandana Mangal

Executive Director, Easton Technology Management Center at UCLA Anderson

Dr. Vandana Mangal is Executive Director for the Easton Technology Management Center and the Research Director for Business and Information Technologies (BIT) at UCLA Anderson School of Management. She taught Big Data as an Emerging Technologies and Markets course at UCLA Anderson. She is on the board of the IS Associates. Dr Mangal spoke about Big Data and participated in a Q&A with a Silicon Beach Startup on 'Concept to Code' on the youtube channel for the City of Santa Monica.

Dr Mangal has been instrumental in launching the Easton Technology Leadership Program and growing it into the Easton Technology Management Center with now over 515 students and $11 million funding. She has published three books and served as the guest editor of a special issue of the Journal of Engineering Management and Economics titled 'Technology, Operations and Strategy in Innovation and Entrepreneurship'. She frequently serves as judge for case and venture competitions and has chaired panels including at the Digital Entertainment World Conference, California Clean Conference, the India Conference and the Women's Business Conference.

Before joining UCLA, Dr Mangal worked at Intel and AE Business Solutions Consulting and, taught at the University of Wisconsin, Madison's School of Business. Her PhD is from the Heinz School at Carnegie Mellon University; her undergraduate degree is in Electrical Engineering from PEC University of Technology.

John Blevins ('11)

Faculty Director, Easton Technology Management Center, Adjunct Professor in DOTM

John R. Blevins (J.B.) ('11) is the faculty director for UCLA Anderson's Easton Technology Management Center and an adjunct professor who teaches strategic management for technology-based businesses. He specializes in emerging technologies that are disrupting traditional business models, including cloud computing, big data, social media, analytics, mobility and technology convergence. With his extensive industry experience, Blevins brings together high-technology sectors, such as aerospace, biotechnology, computer engineering, information technology, software/hardware and telecommunications, with the resources of UCLA Anderson, its students and faculty.

Blevins' work experience includes roles at Deloitte Consulting, Microsoft, Oracle and Shell Oil, where he held a variety of technology and management positions based in Houston, Dallas, New York, Miami, London and Los Angeles. He provides consulting services to the technology, telecommunications, media/entertainment, financial services, energy, CPG, health care, manufacturing and automotive industries and the public sector. He has expertise in strategy development, business-technology alignment, framework creation, venture capital investment decisions and new business model creation. Blevins speaks at academic and industry events covering technology-driven market changes, technology management leadership and other topics.

Blevins is the founder of Navigation Pointe, which provides advisory services and venture capital funding to the emerging technologies industry. He has a B.S. in civil engineering with heavy concentration in speech communications from the University of Alabama, as well as an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
