The second-stage global economy also is shifting from top-down to bottom-up development, driven by the discovery of "bottom-of-the-pyramid" business opportunities, the invention of microfinance, investments and technology transfer to heritage countries by diaspora communities, and the outsourcing of services.

Nonetheless, international entrepreneurship has only recently emerged as a distint field in managemetn education and is slowly developing a comprehensive research agenda.

In the next cycle, we will continue the theme's focus on microfinance by supporting field study teams to work with NGOs on social entrepreneurship.
