Stephanie Anavim, Vice President
Stephanie Anavim currently serves as a Senior Consultant at MetLife. She has over 8 years of experience in financial & business management. Prior to joining MetLife, she served as Associate Vice President and Lead Analyst at Morgan Stanley, where she specialized in portfolio construction and managed a team of investment analysts. Stephanie graduated with honors from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in Business Finance. She currently holds FINRA series 7, 31, and 66 securities registrations and is pursuing her MBA at the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles. She also enjoys traveling and is a self-taught piano player.
Chris Carlson is a valuation analyst at Western Asset. In his role he is tasked with pricing the $450B asset portfolio, specifically managing the hard-to-value private equity positions and structured mortgage products that require internal validation. Born and raised in Santa Monica, Chris began his career at Fannie Mae as a part of their two year Analyst Program after graduating from Washington and Lee University in 2005 with a double major in Economics and Philosophy. He is a part of the FEMBA class of 2016.
Man-Hong "Jackie" Chan
Jackie currently serves as a finance manager at Warner Bros. With over 8 years of experience in strategic and financial planning, he has developed an in-depth knowledge of financial valuation and analysis. Highly proficient in Visual Basic and SQL programming, Jackie has been able to leverage his technical and financial acumen to develop financial models and database for advanced financial analysis.
Jackie is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and a MBA candidate at UCLA Anderson School of Management. He graduated cum laude from University of Southern California with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Originally from the east coast, receiving a degree in Finance and Marketing with honors from Boston College, Zack Conroy has amassed a unique network in his 7 years working in the entertainment industry in New York and Los Angeles. Zack is currently pursuing his MBA at UCLA while playing the role of Oliver Jones on The Bold and the Beautiful, a CBS television show. In addition to his Emmy nominated work on CBS, he has guest starred on CW and HBO shows and interacted with some of the Hollywood elite. Mr. Conroy has found success at UCLA Anderson, winning the prestigious Southern California ACG Cup in 2013 and beating out hundreds of other competitors from around the world to win the National Investment Banking Competition in Vancouver in 2014.
David Cruz, Guest Speaker Coordinator
David Cruz is Portfolio Manager within the Corporate Banking Group at Wells Fargo Bank, where he works on arranging and underwriting credit facilities for large corporate customers. Prior to working at Wells Fargo, David was an analyst at Breakwater Fund Management, a high-yield fixed income fund, where he researched a variety of sectors and bonds. He received a BS in Mathematics/Economics from UCLA in 2005 and earned his CFA charter in 2010. David is currently enrolled in the Fully Employed MBA program at UCLA Anderson.
Andrew Holloway, Buffett Visit Coordinator
Andrew Holloway is an Assistant Regional Bond Manager at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. Andrew joined The Hartford in 2005 as a trainee and progressed rapidly to, four years later, become one of the youngest to ever hold his position. In his role, Andrew is responsible for the underwriting and credit-decision-making process for a portfolio of individual construction accounts with aggregate backlogs ranging from $5 million to $1 billion. Andrew graduated from UC San Diego in 2003 with a BA in Economics and minors in Political Science and Spanish Literature, and was also a four-year letterman on the baseball team. He is currently enrolled in the UCLA Anderson FEMBA program and is pursuing a concentration in finance.
George Ku, VP of Recruiting
George Ku is an Assistant Vice President and serves as an underwriter for the business development team at Wells Fargo Capital Finance, the asset-based lending division of Wells Fargo Bank, where he is responsible for screening and underwriting senior secured credit facilities ranging from $5 million to $35 million for middle-market firms. Prior to Wells Fargo, he was a research analyst at William O'Neil + Co., an investment advisor that provides recommendations exclusively for institutional advisors. In 2005, George graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a bachelor's of science in management science and received the highest distinct honors from the economics department. George passed the CFA Level II exam in 2012.
Jonathan Lea, Budget Chair
Jonathan currently works as an Internal Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service in the Small-Business/Self-Employed Division where he maintains a revolving collection of federal tax audit cases of individuals, corporations, s-corporations and partnerships. He is a licensed CPA and he has passed Level I of the CFA examination series. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004 with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Economics. He is a member of the UCLA Anderson FEMBA class of 2016 and is focusing his studies in finance to transition to the asset management field.
Edmund Lo, VP of Marketing
Edmund has worked as a systems engineer for Qualcomm, Inc. where he designed computer algorithms for mobile application processors. During his time in Qualcomm, he developed statistical methods for measuring and enhancing quality in video data compression. Edmund graduated from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2005 with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. He is a member of FEMBA class of 2016 and is working toward leveraging his background in the semiconductor industry to transition into the asset management field. Edmund is a CFA Level III Candidate.
Chris Martinez, President
Chris Martinez is Vice President and Portfolio Manager in the equity department of RNC Genter Capital Management. He is also a member of the firm's Investment Policy Committee and Equity Strategy Group. Chris began his financial services career as an Account Management Analyst where his roles included presenting the firm's strategies to financial advisors, building & maintaining relationships, and prospecting a sales territory. After two years of successfully growing new assets, he was promoted to the firm's equity department and began his training to become a portfolio manager. His current responsibilities include macroeconomic & company research, financial modeling, trading, and managing over $300 million in client assets. Chris earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and is pursuing a dual concentration in entrepreneurship and investment management at UCLA Anderson; additionally, he serves on the Anderson Student Council as his section's External Representative. He is a member of the CFA Institute and CFALA and a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Han Park, External Representative
Han graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering. After graduation, Han was a was a senior researcher in the Exploration Systems Autonomy section at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he worked on artificial intelligence and time series modeling. He is currently a program manager at the Advanced Concepts and Technology Division at Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. As an MBA candidate at UCLA Anderson, Han is working to leverage his quantitative background to pursue a career in finance and strategy.
David Soong is a compliance analyst at Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), focusing on trading verification automation. Prior to joining PIMCO in 2013, he spent two years at Verizon Wireless as a Senior Financial Analyst, preparing key performance metrics, demographics analytics, and sales channel analysis for regional and area executives. He holds an undergraduate degree in computer science, mathematics and economics from The University of Texas at Austin. He is currently pursuing an MBA at the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles and is currently pursuing the CFA Charterholder designation. In his spare time, he's a real estate agent specializing property and land sales to high net worth Chinese clients.
Razmig Der-Tavitian, Chief Investment Officer
Razmig Der-Tavitian is a Senior Associate at Wilshire Associates and a member of Wilshire Funds Management's Manager Research Group as well as Investment Strategy Committee. Razmig joined Wilshire Associates in 2011 and is primarily responsible for the coverage of Equity Hedge and Event Driven hedge fund strategies as well as Liquid Alternatives. Previously, he spent five years as an investment analyst at Dorchester Capital Advisors, a Los Angeles-based hedge fund-of-funds where he was responsible for analyzing Equity Hedge and Event Driven investments. Razmig earned his B.S. from California State University, Northridge concentrated in Finance with a minor in Economics and is currently pursuing an MBA at UCLA Anderson. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations.
Dan Troost, Risk Manager
Dan Troost is a Program Manager in the Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing group at Farmers Insurance. In his current role, he manages teams in the fields of data analytics and system operations for the organization. Dan graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in Physics. During his time at Berkeley, Dan developed quantitative models for a particle physics research group based out of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is member of the FEMBA 2015 class at UCLA Anderson and is focusing in finance.
Shireesh is an Executive MBA student at UCLA Anderson specializing in finance with primary interest in quantitative asset management. He has a PhD degree in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to joining Anderson, Shireesh worked for Qualcomm, Marvell, Conexant, and Intel; leading design of several semiconductor chips. He has made significant contributions to the semiconductor research, authoring more than 20 papers, journal articles, and book chapters. He sits on several international standard and roadmap committees, conference program committees, and journal editorial boards. He has been invited as a guest speaker and panelist at numerous international conferences, expositions, and symposiums. Shireesh is also working on few non-profit initiatives helping implement projects such as a sustainable agricultural farm, a community banking institution, and a social impact venture fund in East Africa.
James Wooten, Firm Visit Coordinator
James is a full-time student at UCLA Anderson concentrating in finance and focusing on investment management. Prior to pursuing his MBA, James spent 5 years as an attorney specializing in mergers & acquisitions, securities regulation and various litigation matters. He graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 2007. He also received a BA in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Morehouse College in 2004. James is a CFA Level II Candidate.
