Piedmont Natural Gas Hires Karl W. Newlin ('98) as Senior Vice President


Piedmont Natural Gas announced the hiring of Karl W. Newlin ('98), as Senior Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development. He will report directly to Piedmont Chairman, President and CEO Thomas E. Skains. Newlin was until recently Managing Director, Investment Banking with Merrill Lynch & Co. in their New York and Los Angeles offices.

Newlin, 41, has extensive experience in the energy industry leading teams in corporate financings and business transactions for natural gas distribution and midstream companies, electric utilities, independent power producers and clean energy companies. In his new position, Newlin will oversee the Company's strategic planning functions, new business development activities, carbon management initiatives and joint venture investments.

Commenting on the addition of Newlin to Piedmont's Executive Management Team, Skains said, "We are very fortunate to have someone of Karl's experience and talent step into this new position at Piedmont. He broadens the skill sets of our executive management team and his leadership will play an important role in our future success in a new energy economy."

Newlin earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Southern Methodist University and his MBA from UCLA Anderson. He and his family will move from Santa Monica, California, to Charlotte, North Carolina.
