Software Equity Group (SEG), the software industry's premier boutique investment bank and M&A advisory, announced the addition of Dennis Clerke to its deal team. Clerke, who joins as Executive Vice-President, brings to SEG more than twenty years of experience and success as a software entrepreneur, dealmaker, CEO of venture-backed software companies, and executive level strategist with deep expertise in software company financing, operations, product development, sales and channel development.
"Dennis Clerke is a perfect match for SEG," says Ken Bender, SEG Founder and Managing Director. "His deep software industry roots, buy-side and sell-side transaction experience, financial and market acumen, and serial successes as a software CEO are the same unique mix that have contributed to our unparalleled reputation and 19 year track record of success."
From 1991 to 2004, Clerke served as co-founder, President and CEO of Cardiff Software, a leading provider of Business Process Management (BPM) and content capture software with more than 8,000 enterprise customers worldwide. During his tenure at Cardiff, Clerke raised a $4.5 million Series A round to open European operations, and later secured $10 million in Series B venture capital, and acquired a privately-held Adobe spin-off. He successfully managed the sale of Cardiff Software to Verity in March 2004 for a significant premium.
From mid-2004 to June 2007, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Alignent Software, Inc., a leading provider of collaborative roadmapping software for IT and product lifecycle management for Fortune 500 companies in the aerospace, industrial, computer hardware and medical instrument sectors. Clerke closed a $6 million Series A venture capital financing within 5 months of assuming the helm, and increased revenue more than 300% before selling Alignent to Sopheon in June 2007. Software Equity Group served as Alignent's investment banker in that transaction.
From June 2007 until joining SEG, Clerke was founder and managing director of DaggerBoard Advisors, LLC, a strategic advisory firm that has helped more than thirty public, privately held and private equity backed software companies maximize their financial and operational performance.
Clerke was awarded an MBA degree from UCLA Anderson 1989, and a BS in Engineering by Boston University Magna Cum Laude in 1984. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Pandimo and MadCap Software.
