Connect and Learn at Alumni Weekend 2009

Register Today! Alumni Weekend is on October 23 and 24. Alumni Weekend 2009 features a host of compelling speakers, including Professor Ed Leamer, Director, UCLA Anderson Forecast, Chauncey J. Medberry Professor of Management; and Lynda Resnick, owner of POM Wonderful, Fiji Water and Teleflora.

Breakout sessions include your favorite UCLA Anderson professors and fellow alumni in the business world.

Other events include The Birkman Method, a UCLA Recreation Ropes Course, and the Saturday Picnic sponsored by In-N-Out Burger and Pink's Famous Hot Dogs.

J. Fred Weston, UCLA Anderson Professor Emeritus, Passes Away At 93

J. Fred Weston, beloved friend, professor and benefactor of UCLA Anderson School of Management passed away Monday, July 20, 2009. He was 93 years old. Professor Weston was renowned for his path-breaking research on mergers and acquisitions, and was an institution builder who mentored numerous outstanding graduate students including Nobel Prize winning economist William F. Cheng Si-Wei ('83) He is an international expert and renowned scholar in engineering, economics, finance and management. He has more than 40 years experience in the chemical industry and is a pioneer in growing China’s multi-billion dollar borax industry. He is the Former Vice Chairman of the 9th and 10th Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, PRC.

But during a recent visit to UCLA Anderson, he told a Korn Convocation audience packed with UCLA Anderson students, faculty and an array of Chinese and Chinese-American business men and women that he prefers the simple moniker “professor,” suggesting, that with all his accomplishments, it’s the role of teacher that Cheng Si-Wei (’83) most enjoys.
