Javier San Felix ('95)

CEO, Banesto and Senior Executive Vice President, Banco Santander


Javier was born in Madrid, Spain in 1967. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) in Madrid and a MBA degree from the Graduate School of Management at UCLA.

Javier is Chief Executive Officer of Banesto and Senior Executive Vice President of Banco Santander since May 2012. Banesto is a full service universal bank operating solely in Spain as the second retail franchise of Banco Santander. It has over 125 years of history and is listed in the Spanish stock exchange. Banesto operates through 1.600 branches and has a workforce of 6.000 employees. In the first quarter of 2013, Banco Santander and Banesto shareholders have approved their merger which is expected to be legally completed in May 2013 and operational by end of this year.   Prior to May 2012, Javier was Senior Executive Vice President responsible for the management of the Non Euro Markets* of Santander Consumer Finance, and executive member of Santander Consumer Finance Board of Directors. In 2004 he started his career with Santander Consumer Finance as Head of Strategic Planning, in 2005 moved to become Managing Director of Santander Consumer Finance in Spain and in 2006 was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Santander Consumer Finance at its European headquarters until 2008 when he took full responsibility for the non-Euro markets.

Before joining Banco Santander, Javier was a senior Partner of McKinsey & Company in the Madrid office. During his 12 years of consulting life he became a senior leader of the European Financial Institutions practice.   Javier is married and father of three children.
