The UCLA Real Estate Alumni Group (REAG) and the UCLA Anderson MBA Association will host a Fireside Chat on Current Real Estate Trends with Alex Valente interviewing Eric Sussman. Mr. Valente and Mr. Sussman will discuss current real estate trends and influences, including the current/post-election state of capital markets and offer views of the near term trajectory for capital markets and specifically for multifamily real estate. Eric Sussman is a UCLA alumnus and award winning Senior Lecturer in accounting and real estate at Anderson. He serves as President or Chairman of the Board of firms that manage over two million square feet of real estate and funds with over $9.0 billion in assets. Alex Valente is an Anderson Alumnus currently serving as Vice President for the Los Angeles Business Unit of Trammell Crow Company, and President of the UCLA ZIMAN REAG.

About Eric Sussman

Eric Sussman is a Senior Lecturer in accounting and real estate at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he has been teaching since 1995 and won numerous school and national teaching awards, including recognition by Bloomberg-Business Week as one of the Top Ten Most Popular Business School Professors in the country, and recognition as one of the most influential business school faculty alive today. He has taught courses at UC Berkeley, George Washington University, and the Helsinki School of Economics, and created a series of 12 lectures on accounting and finance for the Great Courses (the Teaching Company).

He created Insight FSA, an analytical software tool used to evaluate financial accounting and corporate reporting risk for public companies. In addition, he has advised numerous MBA field study teams and consulted for large and small firms and is a frequent lecturer on varied financial, accounting, and corporate reporting topics. He has led student travel groups to Brazil, China, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi.

Mr. Sussman is president of Amber Capital, Inc., Manager of Fountain Management, LLC and Clear Capital, LLC, and Managing Partner of Sequoia Real Estate Partners, and the Pacific Value Opportunities and Clear Opportunity Funds, which have acquired, rehabilitated, developed, and managed over two million square feet of residential and commercial real estate in the past 20 years. The firms' portfolio presently consists of industrial, multi-family residential, single-family residential, and retail properties (approximately 3,000 residential units and nearly one million square feet of commercial space). He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Causeway Capital's group of funds (International Value, Emerging Markets, Global Value, Global Absolute Return Funds, and International Small Cap) which collectively have over $9.0 billion in assets, sits on the Board of Directors of Pacific Charter School Development, Inc, and was former Chairman of the Presidio Fund and former Audit Committee Chair of Atlantic Inertial Systems, Inc., a producer and manufacturer of electromagnetic sensors. He received his MBA from Stanford, with honors, in 1993, after graduating Summa cum Laude from UCLA in 1987. He is a licensed CPA in the State of California.

About Alex Valente 

Alex Valente serves as Vice President for the Los Angeles Business Unit of Trammell Crow Company. He is responsible for all financial underwriting and market analysis of acquisition opportunities. Mr. Valente also manages all equity and debt relationships and is responsible for preparation of all internal Investment Committee funding and development requests. Property types include office, industrial, multifamily, medical office, vacant land and retail. He received his MBA from UCLA Anderson where he was the President of the Anderson Real Estate Association (AREA) and the winner of the John Long Award for Most Outstanding Student in Real Estate. He holds a BA in Economics from Trinity College where he was Phi Beta Kappa.
