Vintage Rail Car Trip between Los Angeles and San Diego - 13th Annual Trip

Return to the Art Deco Age of the Zephyrs - Save the Date - November 15, 2014

Eighty years ago, the first Zephyr train set a speed record between Chicago and Denver.  Within a few years, Zephyr trains were fanning out from Chicago speeding people to western destinations.  Streamlined trains became the standard for speed and luxury carrying people in first class style and comfort.  The Henry Dreyfuss designed 20th Century Limited and Raymond Lowey designed Broadway Limited delivered New York passengers in art deco luxury overnight to Chicago for connection to west coast bound streamline fast trains.  The grand days of the streamlined trains lasted until the early 1950’s, after which, North American rail travel gave way to automobile and air travel.  Back to the Zephyr trains, the most famous was the California Zephyr … and because of its style and luxury plus breath-taking view of Rocky Mountains and Serra Nevada Range … lasted long after traditional passenger trains had mostly disappeared in North America.

Return to that grand era with UCLA Anderson GLBA Alumni on our 13th annual train trip to San Diego with evening return to Los Angeles.  Once again, we will ride on the beautifully restored Silver Lariat, a car owned by UCLA Anderson alum Burt Hermey and his partner Al Bishop, and which once ran in the consist of the California Zephyr between Chicago and California.

Save Saturday November 15, 2014, for this trip.  If you have never been on board, expect a fun day of socializing with fellow members of the Anderson community and friends.  If you have made this trip before, I am sure you will not want to miss this year’s trip.

More details will be coming … and expect ticket sales to begin in September.  In the meantime, save November 15th on your calendar.  You will have an absolutely fabulous time!
