This event is now closed. A handful of tickets will be available at the door. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2012SANTA MONICA RECEPTION W/ ASSOC. PROF. PHILLIP LESLIE: CONTENT VERSUS PLATFORMS IN 2012 In the entertainment and media value chain, content creators (like music companies) have struggled to capture value in an environment of digital delivery (such as iTunes). “Content is King” is a phrase often expressed with sarcasm, as the focus of investors has been to spurn entrepreneurial content businesses and look to invest in platforms. In Los Angeles the mood has been sober as the value creation by many of our leading local companies has been captured by Silicon Valley technology firms like Apple and Google. However, the content-platform ecosystem is rapidly evolving and content providers have learned a great deal. Today, content providers of all kinds—movie companies, music artists, writers, sports teams and others—have access to technologies that can disintermediate entire segments of the delivery value chain, such as cable companies. In this dynamic, innovative environment, executives must have a vision of where these trends are headed, and be shrewd strategic thinkers. But there is reason to believe that content will indeed be king in this unfolding environment, and that many of our most important companies here in LA are well positioned to capture more of the value going ahead. Time: 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM Price: $25 alumni; $25 students & staff. Includes generous delicious appetizers and a drink. Cash bar also available. Location: Ozumo (check it out) (Map)395 Santa Monica Place #323e Santa Monica, CA 90401 >>REGISTER HERE<< About Assoc.
