Current marketing students and alumni gathered at Monsoon Café in Santa Monica for the UCLA Anderson Marketing Association Fall Alumni Mixer on Tuesday, November 30th. Over drinks and appetizers, Cathy Saidiner ('98), current President of McCann Erickson Los Angeles conducted an insightful Q&A session focused on the growth of digital marketing and its effect on the industry.
In her experience, she has seen a shift in client advertising spending into digital over the past 5 years. She anticipates this shift to continue over the next 5 years into digital, mobile, and social media. Saidiner also left the group with 3 points of advice on how to be a successful marketer: 1) be open but selective about marketing opportunities, 2) gain multidisciplinary expertise in your careers, and 3) "read the tea leaves" of where the market is going.
Saidiner worked throughout the marketing and advertising world on the way to her current position as President of McCann Erickson Los Angeles. She came to UCLA Anderson as a FEMBA while working at Nissan and becoming the National Advertising Manager for the Infiniti Division. Saidiner graduated from UCLA Anderson in 1998 and after a brief stint as a Brand Manager at Mars, she moved over to the agency side as an Account Director at TBWA Chiat Day. There, she worked on accounts including her former employers Nissan and Mars, as well as Pioneer electronic, advancing her to Global Account Director. In 2008 she joined McCann Erickson Los Angeles as President. McCann Erickson is part of world's largest global ad agency network and has been named Global Agency of the Year multiple times and consistently wins industry awards.
