Patty Oertel, MBA 1980
Played a Critical Role in Building Field of Nonprofit Management
Oertel has been a leader in bringing MBA-level management skills to the nonprofit world - whether through her work providing consulting services directly to hundreds of nonprofit organizations, through her university teaching, authoring books and articles or through sector leadership. She currently serves as president of The Oertel Group, a consulting firm focused on maximizing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations. Prior to that, Oertel had served as executive director of the Los Angeles-based Center for Nonprofit Management. She played a critical role in the development of the Nonprofit Management Association. Oertel was a visiting instructor at UCLA Anderson from 1991 to 1997 and has continued to mentor UCLA Anderson students. She has brought in alumni as volunteers at the center, giving them firsthand experience in applying their MBA skills to and in turn appreciating the impressive work of nonprofit organizations.
