Bernee D. L. Strom, MBA 1980
Serial Entrepreneur, Founding 8 Successful Companies
Using her Anderson education, Strom made the transition from college mathematics professor to successful serial entrepreneur - and a trailblazer who was one of only two women from the UCLA Anderson class of 1980 to start a company. Strom has earned a reputation for guiding technology firms from startup to mainstream success. She has started or run eight businesses. Among these are Gemstar/TV Guide International, inventor of VCR Plus and electronic program guides (EPGs); iBiquity (formerly USA Digital Radio), a digital HD radio company; and Ensequence, an interactive television company. She previously served as president of InfoSpace Ventures, LLC, and president and COO of InfoSpace, Inc.; and was founding CEO of Priceline.com. Strom was also a founding partner of Revitalization Partners, a Seattle-based turnaround and business advisory firm. Currently, she is chairman and CEO of WebTuner Corp., an over-the-top (OTT) television software and services company. Strom has served as a Corporate Director of many public and private companies, including Polaroid, Hughes Electronics (DirecTV), Software Publishing Corp., and Benchmark Electronics, and serves as a Trustee of the National Public Radio (NPR) Foundation. She has served as a judge for Ernst & Youngs's Entrepreneur of the Year Awards on both the regional and national levels. She is active in professional and civic organizations and has held board positions in many of them, including the Deans Advisory Board of the Anderson School of UCLA, the Girl Scouts Green and White Select, and the Women's Leadership Board of the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. Strom has garnered prestigious awards from business organizations and associations, including the Luminary Award from the Committee of 200. She was named by the Star Group as one of the "Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World" at a ceremony in Venice, Italy, where she also received the Technology Award from IBM. The Forum of Women Entrepreneurs also named her "Entrepreneur of the Year".
