Economic and Trade Leader in the Japanese Government
Shibota serves as director-general for the Customs and Tariff Bureau in Japan's Ministry of Finance. He joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1977 and has been posted to various critical positions in the Japanese government, including director of the Global Environmental Affairs Office in MITI and economic counselor of the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C. from 1992 to 1995. He was also posted as director-general for Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in Beijing from 2005 to 2008.
