Adriana Martinez '02 Leads Effort to Make Every Californian Count

Numbers collected every decade for the U.S. Census are the basis for each state’s representation in the U.S. House of Representatives and the fair distribution of hundreds of billions of dollars in public funding.

In August, Adriana Martinez ’02 was appointed by California Governor Jerry Brown to serve as the deputy director of outreach for the state’s California Complete Count effort. The campaign was created to reach the state’s most difficult to reach communities—and Adriana’s job is to ensure that every Californian is counted in the upcoming California Census 2020. “California has always been the state that’s hardest to count,” Martinez says. “The committee’s job is to proactively explain why the census is important and how necessary it is to fill out the forms.” Adriana, who previously led public affairs at AT&T and later served as director of external affairs for California, has experience with the census having worked on the 2000 Census under Governor Gray Davis’ tenure. Supporting UCLA Anderson is All About Family for Daniel Tsai

For Daniel Tsai, co-head of Taiwan based Fubon Financial Holdings and Chairman of Taiwan Mobile, his most significant accomplishment is his family. So, when his daughter Iris Tsai ‘17 shared the positive student experience she had as a student at UCLA Anderson, Daniel Tsai created the Daniel Tsai Fellowship. Believing that promoting exchanges of business experience is a good idea, he established the fellowship for UCLA Anderson students interested in living and working in the Greater China region. “I thought that business education in our area needed more international input,” he says. “Whether they be students from our region or students from other regions.” Daniel’s father, who was a dedicated philanthropist, also had a big influence on him. “He believed that wealth is not created just for an individual or a family; he believed that you should try and do a lot of good for society.” Read more.
