The Healthcare Business Association (HBA) at UCLA Anderson School of Management provides professional connections and education to students interested in the business of healthcare. Whether members are interested in healthcare products (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device) and/or services (e.g., consulting, provider, payer), HBA’s offerings prepare members for successful recruitment and careers in healthcare-related fields.

Activities include the annual healthcare conference, career night, seminars, speaker series, alumni networking, educational events and industry outreach. Our organization consists of more than 120 full-time, fully employed and executive MBAs and continues to attract students in the greater UCLA community. In addition, we aim to serve as a nexus for healthcare industry information exchange at UCLA and in the business community.

Events

HBA Networking Night

The HBA Networking Night is the first opportunity for members to network with recruiters. Held in early October, this event kicks off the recruiting season and gives students a chance to start building relationships with recruiters over drinks and appetizers.

HBA Career Night

The HBA Career Night is the club’s premier event for recruiting. Typically held at an off-campus location in early November, Career Night offers students opportunities to network with recruiters and learn about internship and full-time opportunities over dinner in a roundtable format. Career Night also features keynote speakers from top-tier HBA sponsors who deliver informative presentations about their firms.

Days on the Job (DOJs)

Planned in collaboration with the Parker Career Management Center, DOJs provide students opportunities to visit recruiting firms and learn firsthand what it’s like to work there. These events occur primarily during the fall quarter with firms in Southern California and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Healthcare Conference

The annual UCLA Anderson Healthcare Conference is a professional conference focused on the healthcare industry, typically held in late February. Now in its fourth year, the Healthcare Conference attracts hundreds of students, professors, physicians and other healthcare industry practitioners from California and beyond. Keynote speeches and panel discussions focus on current and future healthcare industry trends such as precision medicine, digital health and value-based healthcare.

Case Competition

The HBA is planning its inaugural healthcare case competition in conjunction with the Healthcare Conference. Backed by corporate sponsors, the case competition will have a substantial prize purse to attract student teams from top MBA programs around the country. These students will also be invited to attend networking events before and after the competition and the conference the next day.

Speaker Series

Throughout the academic year, the HBA Speaker Series hosts healthcare industry experts to discuss important industry trends and provide in-depth information about their firms. In addition to valuable and informative educational content, these events provide students with additional networking opportunities with firm representatives.

Healthcare Interview Prep

In collaboration with Healthcare ACT coaches, the HBA helps its members prepare for interviews by offering education at the industry and firm level. HBA members also help each other by conducting mock interviews and case discussions.
