Lissa Poincenot, MBA 1983
Advocate and Inspiration to Families Affected by Blindness In the fall of 2008
Poincenot's oldest son, Jeremy, abruptly went from fully sighted to legally blind. The cause of her son's sudden blindness was Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), a rare genetic disorder. Drawing on her UCLA Anderson education, Poincenot responded with determination, quickly becoming a leader in the LHON community. She established a philanthropic company to raise money for LHON research and generate awareness of this orphan disease. A website (www.jeremypoincenot.com) that shares her son's story combined with media coverage provides hope and inspiration. Poincenot created a website (www.LHON.org) to make information available to others affected by LHON, and has become a recognized voice in the LHON patient community as well as a sought-after source of information and guidance for families suddenly thrust into a world of blindness.
