Developed Academy Programs for High Schools in Underserved Communities

Carol RowenRowen has achieved notable success developing academy programs for high schools in underserved low-income communities as the CEO of International Trade Education Programs, Inc. (ITEP), an organization she founded in 1999. ITEP's program was implemented first at Banning High, where it more than doubled the graduation rate. Since then, ITEP has developed academies for four other high schools. Her many honors include Los Angeles Times/Los Angeles County Commission for Women's "Woman of the Year" in 1999 and winner of the Foreign Trade Association's Stanley T. Olafson Award in 2009, the most prestigious honor that can be bestowed on an individual associated with the international trade industry in Southern California. On September 16, 2010, Ms. Rowen was the   honoree at the International Seafarer's Center, LA/LB at the annual dinner for her work introducing students to maritime careers in trade, transportation and Logistics.
